In the Korean War, Congressman Charles Rangel (D-NY) served with the Army's 503rd Field Artillery Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division, from 1948-1952. In the Battle of Kunu-Ri in what is now North Korea, he led 40 members of his decimated unit to safety from behind enemy lines earning a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for valor.
