10/19/06--Rep. Judy Biggert, R-Ill., and Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, D-Ohio, return from a break during questioning of former House Clerk Jeff Trandahl, before the House ethics panel; Trandahl is a central figure in the investigation of the way officials dealt with complaints about e-mail overtures to teen-age pages. Trandahl, who headed the page program during his tenure and spoke to Foley personally about the e-mails, testified under oath for more than four hours. TrandahlÕs testimony is of particular importance because of his deep involvement in the page program and the clerkÕs general position of authority in the House. He and the chairman of the Page Board, Rep. John Shimkus, R-Ill., spoke privately with then-Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla., after learning FoleyÕs e-mail to a former page made the teen-ager uncomfortable enough to complain. Majority Leader John A. Boehner was scheduled to testify later in the day.
