11/07/06--At an election party in Washington, D.C., near the U.S. Captiol, DCCC Chairman Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and DSCC Chairman Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y., have a group hug as they celebrate the Democratic takeover of the House, and potentially the Senate. California Rep. Nancy Pelosi will become the highest-ranking woman ever in American government if, as expected, she is elected Speaker of the House in January. She is poised to lead Democrats as they move to check BushÕs authority and convince voters that they deserve to keep control of the chamber Ñ and take back the Oval Office Ñ in 2008.
