11/14/06--Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., Sen. Byron L. Dorgan, D-N.D., Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., and Sen. Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y., after leadership elections for their caucus. Reid and Sen. Richard J. Durbin of Illinois will continue to lead the party, but this time as majority leader and majority whip. The two have held the top jobs since the start of the current Congress in 2005. Reid previously served as whip under Minority Leader Tom Daschle, D-S.D., who was defeated in his Senate re-election bid in 2004. Dorgan will remain chairman of the Democratic Policy Committee, and Schumer agreed to an encore as chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, but also will gain a new title Ñ vice chairman of the Democratic Caucus, the new No. 3 leadership post. Murray is the only new face on the five-member elected team. She was chosen to replace Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., as conference secretary. Congressional Quarterly Photo by Scott J. Ferrell
