Binh Nguyen applys dye to the names on the National Japanese American Memorial to make them stand out. The National Japanese American Memorial to Patriotism was designed by Davis Buckley Architects and Planners. A memorial wall of pink granite includes inscriptions of the names of the ten World War II relocation camps and the number of people interned in each. Additional panels contain quotations commemorating patriotism and honor, as well as acknowledgement of and apology for injustices suffered. A peaceful water pool, containing several large boulders, is designed in the Zen style, while a haunting memorial bell, designed by sculptor Paul Matisse, recalls traditional Japanese temple bells. For its striking artistic beauty, this memorial has been awarded several architectural honors.
