At far right is Conn Carroll, of National Journal's Blogometer/Hotline; in foreground is Robert Bluey, Human Events Online. Stearns is responding to a question about a provision some conservatives oppose in the Voting Rights Act that would require bilingual language assistance. While the amendment was defeated 167-254, it once again highlighted GOP rank-and-file dissatisfaction about how Republican leaders have handled a bill (HR 9) to extend the landmark 1965 law (PL 89-110).
