Domenici, R-N.M., to encourage the expansion of the use of renewable fuels over the next 20 years. The "Biofuels for Energy Security and Transportation Act of 2007 "(S.987) would require the U.S fuel supply to contain higher amounts of renewable fuels, from 8.5 billion gallons in 2008 to 36 billion gallons in 2022. From 2016 to 2022, the bill would require that advanced biofuels, such as celluosic ethanol, biobutanol and others, make up an increasing portion of the renewable fuels that the U.S. consumes. The bill calls for increasing Department of Energy funding for bioenergy research and development by 50 percent from 2007 to 2009. Congressional Quarterly Photo by Scott J. Ferrell
